Goin to the White Sox Game!

Well everyone it's gonna be quick today! A couple of things for you: Chris Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals suffers a set back Friday. For all you Carpenter owners I think it's finally time to cut him loose. Max Scherzer the big Arizona stud was optioned today to Triple A. He has not pitched in consecutive games in the last four weeks. He still remains a great prospect but it is time for him to get cut loose.

Quick Pitch or Ditch for today

Some Good News for Yankee Fans

Today at Yankee stadium the Yankee pitching staff got some wonderful news. Phil Hughes is going to have an x-ray to see if that stress fracture in his right is gone. Hopefully he will be able to begin a throwing program. Poor Joba has been stretched out for two weeks now. Why? Because the Yankee’s pitching staff is so desperate for a pitcher that they are “trying” to make him a starter. I personally think he is a closer!

With all the injury’s that have been occurring in MLB this season, most teams are looking to their farm system to steer them through tough times. The farm system is generally not depended on by the Yankees due to the fact that they DO NOT HAVE ONE. Year after year this ball club attempts to go out and buy the biggest and best name on the free agent market. This season everyone will be on the hunt for CC. Can the Yankees keep up with the Rays and Boston who are developing young talent?

Uggla Saves The Day!!!!!

At the end of last season when the Florida Marlins started selling off there high price talent again, I thought to myself is this going to be the worst team in baseball? Well we are 11 weeks into the season and they are 2nd place in there division with a winning record of 36-29 and a 2 game winning streak. Winning in style last night, after Kevin Gregg had yet again let two runners on first and third, a perfect opportunity for a double play. Chase Utley comes to the plate and hits a ground ball to Dan Uggla at second base. He turned and tossed the ball, Hanley couldn’t get the ball out of his mitt fast enough and the runner from third scored and Gregg had blown his forth save, or so we thought. Reliever Tom Gordon from the Phillies got into a jam himself by walking Ramirez. Bringing up Jorge Cantu who had two solo home runs to the plate, he singled, after Gordon then walked Wes Helms to load the bases. Dan Uggla came to the plate and hit a walk off grand slam. The first walk off grand slam bye a Marlin since Bobby Bonilla did it in 1997. Kevin Gregg ended up with the win and Tom Gordon with the loss.

Albert headed to DL

Albert is headed to the DL, for those of you who drafted him in the first round. You all knew this was coming. People will be scrambling for a good first baseman. Who is going to be the shining star who takes Albert's place. Its going to be Chris Duncan he was brought up from Triple A Memphis. Albert has only missed two games this season, with all the whirl wind about an arm injury at the beginning of the season did not seem to slow him up. He was batting .326 with 16 homers and 42 RBI's. I would have loved to have had him in my lineup. So all of you Conner Jackson and Jason Giambi owners sell high, you could get alot for guys like this.

Homer Bailey

Prospects are talked about all the time. Everyone is looking for the next Ryan Braun or Clayton Kershaw. Reds have a prospect that has been talked for the past two seasons. We have heard about Homer Bailey since high school, how great his pitches were. He had the most upside of all high school pitchers taken in the 2004 draft. From what I have seen in the last two seasons is a pitcher who has no control of any of his pitches. Also his control of the game is awful. For example watching him against Albert Pujols with a runner in scoring position, he did not protect his pitches. He just threw a meat pitch over the plate. Pujols took that ball and launched it over the wall. Instead of walking Pujols, and controlling the bases Bailey let him take his fast ball over the right field wall. We have seen enough of Homer Bailey as a starter. I would like to see him sent to the bullpen. Where he can get some more Major League experience and learn how to control a game. With the other young pitchers in the Reds rotation doing very well such as Edison, Volquez and Johnny Cueto; this team should be a contender for a long time. The Reds are a young team with tons of offensive potential. With the call up of Jay Bruce and the upside of Joey Votto, this young team should be a division contender in the next two years. I will be waiving Homer Bailey until he gets a clue.

Tampa Bay Rays

Last nights action was held to only a couple of games. To bad we had to wait until 10:05 P.M. game time to start those sizzling Tampa Bay Rays. Didn’t see this coming…… Joe Saunders has been one of the best pitchers in baseball 9-2 going into last night’s game with the Rays. It all started in the second inning for the young left hander, back to back to back home runs hit. However another rising star that’s having a nice rookie season, Evan Longoria, was followed by Aybar and Navarro also with solo shots. Bye the end of the 4th inning the Angles had the lead back. They did not keep the Rays down for long they went on to have 18 hits in the game along with 4 home runs, 2 by Mr. Longoria. Of those in the 9th Crawford and Upton continued to score runs and get RBI’s, but the stars of the night were Longoria and Navarro. They went for a combined total of 7 runs and 7 RBI’s for fantasy owners. That’s a nice night!!!!!!!

Today’s game will show another great match up between two pitchers who are looking to break out. James Shield Strikeout rate has been down a little (from last season’s rate) but with the run support that the Rays have been giving him, this season he is a great start for any Fantasy Team. Weaver on the other hand is a good pitcher but at times looks like he has forgotten how to throw strikes.

Injuries and Updates

With all of the injures happening in today’s game, we have to talk about the players who take the place of those injured stars. No David Ortiz? Well that is not a problem JD Drew has been lighting it up since Big Papi has been on the DL. Next available player in most AL only leagues and all mixed leagues is Alexei Ramirez. He is in that red hot White Sox offense. In a keeper league I would make an attempt at this guy. Another Player who is getting placed in to the spotlight, Manny Parra; with the loss of Yovani Gallardo, he has looked good at times and GREAT at others. He has nice control and great stuff, and will also be a two-start pitcher with sleeper upside in a couple weeks. Rickie Weeks has been bad this season, and I have continued to place him in my line up every week. Not any more though, he is headed to the DL! I wonder if Bill Hall wants that trade now. This will also make way for veteran Craig Counsell.

Was listening to Will Carroll from baseball Prospective on Fantasy Focus talk about Wainwright? The middle finger is the issue and we all know that he throws most of his pitches with his middle finger. He is headed to the DL. The cardinals are having some problems at the moment with the injury bug. Thank God in the off season they picked up long time right hander Kyle Lohse, who has not looked bad at all in the starts made this season.

Well that’s it for now each Monday I will give an Injury report and updates.
